Got it program, tips for parents

Got it program is for parents to look after their child's behaviour and respond accordingly. The major focus is getting on track in time. You can normally sense the following behaviours in your child.

  • Resilience is the ability to cope with difficult situations. Parents and teachers can help children learn how to be resilient (PDF 371KB)
  • Help your child learn to respond rather than react. Parents can model the strategy by using the stop, think, do (PDF 425KB) out loud when dealing with their own problems.
  • Co-regulation (PDF 463KB) is when a calm adult soothes a child they become ‘in tune’ with each other. Being ‘in tune’ with an adult helps the child learn to manage emotions and how to calm down.
  • Self-care is important (PDF 365KB). There is simply no way to be a patient and calm parent if you are not looking after yourself
  • Emotional coaching (PDF 548KB) talks about all feelings are ok but not all behaviours are.
